A little history about Bolhão

The neighbourhood is most famous for the Mercado do Bolhão, a historic market established in 1914. Santa Catarina is one of Porto’s main commercial areas, renowned for its bustling pedestrian street lined with international and local stores. This vibrant area is also home to the famous Café Majestic, a symbol of the city’s Belle Époque era. The street’s name is derived from the ancient chapel of Santa Catarina. Today, it’s a lively shopping destination where modern retail meets historical charm, offering a dynamic mix of culture and commerce.
