A little history about Alfama

Historically, Alfama is one of the oldest districts in Lisbon, with roots tracing back to the Moorish occupation. Its name is derived from the Arabic word “al-hamma,” meaning “hot fountains” or “baths.” This area is famous for its traditional Fado music, ancient architecture, and lively festivals, making it a living museum of Portuguese culture.
