A little history about Alfama

Historically, Alfama is one of the oldest districts in Lisbon, with roots tracing back to the Moorish occupation. Its name is derived from the Arabic word « al-hamma, » meaning « hot fountains » or « baths. » This area is famous for its traditional Fado music, ancient architecture, and lively festivals, making it a living museum of Portuguese culture.
