Ando Insider Picks – Luís Nunes

Local Lisbon guide with insider tips from Ando Living, featuring Santos neighborhood, cafés, restaurants, hidden gems, and day trips recommended by a local team member.

At Ando Living, we believe the best way to experience a city is through the eyes of the people who call it home. That’s why we asked Luís Nunes, from our team, to share his personal “Ando Picks”, a curated selection of authentic spots, flavours, and experiences that capture the true essence of Lisbon.

You recently filmed a video about our latest House, Abrantes 50 in Santos. How would you describe this neighborhood in just a few words?

Full of new foodie spots, small design shops, and authentic local groceries.

For guests staying in Santos, what would you recommend they do?

Take a walk along the riverside, explore the local art galleries and concept stores, and enjoy a sunset drink at one of the rooftop bars or waterfront cafés. Don’t miss the creative vibe around Time Out Market and the nearby Cais do Sodré area, perfect for food lovers and nightlife.

What’s your favorite local café in the city?

Definitely Comoba. It’s stylish, relaxed, and the coffee and brunch are excellent. A perfect spot to work, read, or just enjoy a calm morning in the city.

What restaurant guests shouldn’t miss in Lisbon?

Casa do Bacalhau, a true Lisbon classic where codfish is celebrated in every possible way. The atmosphere is elegant yet relaxed, and the menu combines tradition with authenticity. It’s the perfect spot for guests who want to experience genuine Portuguese cuisine and discover why cod is such an essential part of our culture.

Do you have a suggestion for the perfect day trip while staying in Lisbon?

Yes, Sintra is a must! Just 30 minutes away, it feels like stepping into a fairy tale with its palaces, gardens, and castles. And it is actually where I am from and where I’ve always lived.

What’s one hidden gem or fun fact about the city that guests usually don’t know?

One of my favorite hidden gems in Lisbon is the Quiosque das Amoreiras. It’s tucked away inside the beautiful Amoreiras Garden, just a short walk from Rato. In the late afternoon, it becomes one of the most peaceful and charming spots in the city, locals gather for a coffee, a glass of wine, or a cold beer under the trees while the sun sets through the leaves. It’s a simple yet authentic experience that many visitors miss. I love recommending it because it captures the real Lisbon lifestyle, relaxed, friendly, and full of light. If you go there around golden hour, you’ll really feel like a true Lisboeta.

Do you have a personal tip for guests to feel like a true Lisboeta during their stay?

Yes! Have dinner at Tasquinha do Lagarto, it’s a real typical Portuguese restaurant where you’ll experience a 100% Portuguese atmosphere, good food, and friendly chaos in the best possible way. It’s the kind of place locals love and visitors never forget.
